Character Age: 35
Team: Team Subs
Canon: Tales of the Abyss (OVA)
Canon Point: Episode 11, shortly before leaving Keterburg.
Reserve Link: changed with permissionBottom Line: 'Somehow, manages to be one of the good guys.'
Suitability: Imagine someone who knows everything hours before the rest of the cast and just sits back to 'tell them, Naegi' it out because he simply does not see a reason to. Also, morals are a suggestion and murder is a valid way to deal with one's enemies.
History: aselia wiki linkAbout: Combat Ability - Being the team's primary spellcaster, Jade has a wide range of skills with Auldrant's magic, both in theory and practice. While he's incapable of healing magic, Jade understands the system of magic itself to such a point that he actively used it on his own eyes to augment his ability (a process which is noted to cause blindness and/or insanity if done wrong). Jade is a skilled spellcaster with varied control of the First through Sixth Fonons--in other words, the basic elements. He fights using a spear, the
summoning and dismissal of which is due to a technique of essentially reducing it to an intangible form and storing it within his own right arm. The spear itself, while able to be utilized as an ordinary weapon, is more often combined with a given element for artes such as Thunder Lance or Sovereign Gale.
While he does possess a small number of physical skills, Jade's spellcasting is the main focus of his combat power. As the party's main offensive spellcaster, his fonic artes range from the beginner-level Energy Blast and Photon to the arcane Infernal Prism and Blessed Drops. Additionally, he has two Mystic Artes, Mystic Cage and Indignation, that can only be used sparingly and under pressing circumstances (at low HP and in
Overlimit). A list of artes potentially available to him can be found
here. Not that I expect this to matter. Unless he gets a deck brush, then god help us all.Intellect - Jade is in no uncertain terms a genius; at the age of nine he was already incredibly skilled in fonic artes but also developed
fomicry, or the method of essentially cloning objects or even living matter. The first attempt at replicating the latter, however, went absolutely pear-shaped in horrible fashion and fomicry in itself is generally regarded as a Bad Idea. (Earning him the name/reputation of 'Necromancer', which is definitely a thing you want to suspect your military personnel of being.) Additionally, it's stated that he wrote several books on fomicry as well as on the workings of Auldrant's magic.
Can't Relate - Jade is by his own admission, unable to understand or relate to other people. While he understands good and evil in concept, what he lacks is the ability to find the former desirable or the latter abhorrent. The morality and actions of others are mystifying to him, as selflessness and emotion rarely if ever factor into anything Jade himself does. While he
does experience and express emotions such as anger and regret, he simply doesn't have any capacity to fully understand the positive sentiments and good motivations of other people. Jade has no emotional attachment to the world, and is
very aware that is something abnormal; while he understands the concept on an intellectual level, emotionally he does not inherently understand the value in human life. Jade himself is cold, calculating, and pragmatic to the extreme; were he
not capable of that regret, he could easily have been an antagonist rather than a party member.
Tactless - Following from the above stated inability to relate to others, Jade's own mannerisms in dealing with them comes off as coldhearted. He speaks almost exclusively in a language comprised of derision, mockery, and sarcasm. If there is a poorly timed and off-color remark to be made, you can bet he will absolutely make it with a smile and not an ounce of regret. His sense of humor is as sharp as his spear, and often just as painful.
Communications Breakdown - Jade is
incapable of relaying information of any sort ninety-nine times out of one hundred. He realizes both Luke and Ion are replicas early on practically before the idea is even presented as a
possibility, but says nothing about it due to deciding that it wasn't vital information. Byakuya Togami has nothing on Jade in sheer ability to see explaining as beneath him. Even asked directly about much less earthshattering and vital information, he repeatedly tells someone else (almost
always Guy) to explain instead.
Regains:-
Capacity Core: Nocer Forte - A stone disc engraved with an arcane design meant to amplify magic.
-
Apple Gel - A refreshing apple-flavored treat that ostensibly heals minor wounds. Ostensibly. [Renewable]
-
Tartarus - A very small model of a
very large ship.
-
'Evil Fonist?' - The apparel of one who definitely does not use his powers for evil.
-
Rappig - A friendly creature resembling a pig with long rabbit ears. She wears a surprisingly ornate collar reading 'Nephry'.
Motives: Satan offering him a corn chip. If the many over the few appears genuinely at risk and murder seems the safest option somehow (or better, it looks like he can game the system), then he would barely hesitate to kill someone one way or another. That, or give him a shot at retconning himself via time paradox homicide.
Sample: [It always caused so much unnecessary trouble to point out the obvious.]
[Time and again that belief had been proven right—yes, the priest was suspicious. Yes, the masked youth with a propensity for chess metaphors was deliberately obtuse. Yes, there was at least one vampire in the trial room with them. Week in and week out, argument after argument wasted all their time and energy. Jade could think of a half-dozen better ways to spend the morning than pointless bickering and derailments.]
[So today he said nothing, save to confirm the truth as a medical professional—Lelouch Lamperouge had been stabbed through the heart, and with how few friends he had made it was almost immediate that the room dissolved into baseless accusations.]
[It was kind of funny, honestly. There had been no murder weapon found, and it looked like the whole room was ready to come to blows if some grand revelation didn’t present itself before long.]
[With accusations and assumptions flying, Jade knew it was only a matter of time before such wild stray shots ended up grazing him. He turned to face the demand for elaboration with the same infuriating smile as ever, adjusting his glasses with the aura of someone resting their hand on a holster.]My, my, you’re going to break an old man’s frail heart.
[Behind clear lenses, blood red eyes remained untouched by the smile he wore.] If you truly believe I had some hand in our young revolutionary’s death, I would like to hear you elaborate. It’s already been proven that I am not concealing a weapon, after all.
[At least, not anywhere it could be found.]Plot Involvement: i can roll with whatever, god knows every tales game has a temporary traitor party member (would you believe it isn't him?)
Case Involvement: it's in rngesus' hands but he's more likely to be a culprit
Other: Sample prompt aside I’m assuming total nerfing, but if possible I'd like to keep his augmented fonic sight (in this context probably interpreted as the potential to see ambient magic, should it be present). I just think it'd be funny if it managed to come up and he had to be useful whether he liked it or not. Although the ability to straight up hide a weapon magically would be fun to build a case on, we can burn that bridge if/when we get to it.
